Take Safety to all Employees

National Safety Council of India is an apex nonprofit making, tripartite body constituted to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level. A state level branch of NSC was established in the year 1968 as NSC (Kerala Chapter). Since then the chapter was organizing various programmes through out this region for the empowerment of Safety, Health and Environment.

Among the various chapters of NSC, Kerala chapter is an active and vibrant one, due to the high level of professionalism and highly suitable human potential available at this region. The Council during in its past years of existence has successfully organized and conducted several industrial Safety programmes both for Management and Workmen on in-company and Inter-Company basis. Other than its normal safety promotional activities, the council conducts theme based Safety Campaigns every year. In 2009, the theme for its activities is Take Safety to all Employees Whether organized or unorganized

As we all know India is one of the fast growing countries in the world. The reflections of these developments are very much seen at this region too. Across the world the safety in construction sector is a matter of concern. In India, this is one of the most vulnerable segments of un-organized sector. Workers safety and health is well regulated in the organized sectors like industries by stringent rules and regulations. There are various regulatory bodies to monitor these aspects. However, this is not the case in the unorganized sector. Workers at these sectors are less informed, and also health and safety of these workers have been given less priority by their employers. The problems at these sectors are highlighted only during some major accidents, that too, where the toll of death is very high. Also, nobody monitors the corrective actions / precautions taken to avoid such incident in the future.

The only way to inculcate the awareness of Health and Safety aspects to these sectors is by sharing information during training programmes and safety campaigns. I believe that NSC is one such premier institution that can do a lot more for the empowerment of Health and Safety of the workers in the unorganized sectors as it was doing for the employees of the organized sectors. With this aim in mind, the council will be taking up various programmes and campaigns to take the message of safety and health to the workers in the unorganized sector. I sincerely appeal all the concerned to utilize and take advantages of these programmes and promotional activities.

Let’s Take Safety to all Employees Whether Organized or Unorganized.
